An official scribe whose work seems to be associated with the work of the jury of inquest. Found most often in deposition-type documents immediately below the deposition itself, with the purpose of recording that the deponent has owned his or her testimony before the jurors of inquest (see Depositions, type 1). Occasionally records more fully the contents of what the deponents have affirmed before the jury or upon their oath (see Depositions, type 2). The scribe has also taken down examinations.
